Curriculum
LINCOLN INTERACTIVE
BOSS is now introducing Lincoln Interactive. These courses offer
flexibility in scheduling and regular feedback from highly trained,
certified teachers. Every student will receive a textbook and/or
an I-text and materials designed by top of the line publishers
to support this carefully written curriculum created by educators
on the BOSS staff. These self-paced semester courses will include
4 units encompassing 10 lessons. Each lesson will be aligned to
Ohio state standards. Assignments will engage the learner in web
based or interactive experiences where a student’s knowledge
will be assessed online. Courses will feature clear directions,
guided
instruction, detailed examples, as well as web link activities,
PowerPoint and video presentations. Within each course students
can interact with a dedicated instructor and other students via
content driven discussions and be supported throughout the lessons,
as needed. Frequent assessment will include 4 unit exams, mid-unit
quizzes, and cumulative semester assessment that follow the student’s
regular daily lesson preparation. Lincoln Interactive will be available
as a self-paced program or with live instructors in the Virtual
Classroom. It is the learner’s choice, and BOSS hopes to
provide the best quality educational services available.
CALVERT SCHOOL
For almost 100 years, Calvert School has been serving home-schooling
families and continues the Calvert tradition of excellence established
by Virgil Hillyer, Calvert School’s first Head Master. Hillyer,
a Harvard-trained scholar, understood that caring parents wanted
to give their children an educational advantage that would inspire
them to excel academically and to reach their potential. Today,
more than 400,000 students have benefited from Calvert. Incorporated
as a nonprofit organization, Calvert School is internationally
recognized among independent schools. Courses are approved by the
Maryland State Department of Education, and the school is a member
of the Educational Records Bureau and the National Association
of Independent Schools. The Home Instruction Department is accredited
both by the Commission on Elementary Schools, a division of the
Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Commission
on International and Trans-regional Accreditation (CITA). Calvert
is the first home schooling curriculum to receive CITA certification.

FINE ARTS
It is the goal of the Buckeye Online School for Success to offer
the highest quality fine arts education for all of its students.
BOSS has many exciting programs for the student to further his
or her interests in the fine arts. Many of these opportunities
do not exist in most “brick and mortar” schools. The
following are a sample of the many available programs:
Interactive, virtual, and correspondence classes
allow students of all grade levels to explore their interests in
music and visual
art. Studio art classes with qualified teachers in art centers
located across the state give students an opportunity to take “hands
on” visual art
lessons. Students earn school credit for their private lessons taken with qualified
instrumental, vocal, and dance teachers. Numerous field trips and events allow
students to interact with each other while attending concerts,
musicals, festivals, and museums.
TUTORING & REMEDIATION
Ohio certified teachers using a software platform called Blackboard
will monitor the new Lincoln Interactive courses. Through Blackboard,
a BOSS student can:
Post questions to a course discussion board with
a response time of less than 24 hours. Attend real-time online
tutoring, with a subject certified instructor, on an
as needed basis.
VIRTUAL CLASSROOM
The Buckeye Online School for Success offers a
student a unique type of class setting. BOSS runs real-time classes
with live instructors
utilizing a software program, Interwise and the Internet thus creating
the Virtual Classroom (VC). VC is available for students in grades
4 through 12. Using Calvert and Lincoln Interactive, BOSS is able
to offer the most comprehensive courses to work in conjunction
with Ohio State Standards.
VC offers flexibility of arranging a schedule,
live teacher instruction, as well as independent work. VC students
interact with teacher as well as classmates by spoken, written,
and auditory communication. All materials and software are provided for participation.
Classes meet several hours a week for instruction and have independent
assignments, test, and quizzes to complete on non-instructional
days. VC offers variety, the latest technology, classroom and teacher
support, and guidance for the student’s success.
DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM
Getting a head start on college!
Imagine graduation day and the possibility of walking away with
not one, but two diplomas. The Buckeye Online School for Success
(BOSS) offers a dual college enrollment program to help a student
get a head start on the college experience while still enrolled
in high school. At BOSS, we offer college level courses to qualified
high school students. Successful completion of coursework allows
for both high school and college credit.
