Who is eligible to attend?
BOSS is a tuition free public school. Residents of Ohio students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible for enrollment.
Do I need to own a computer to attend?
No. Each student will be loaned a computer system (including computer, printer, software) to support the learning process. These computer systems are instructional property and must be returned when the student leaves BOSS. BOSS will arrange for technical support and troubleshooting for these systems. You will need to have your own internet service provider.
Will I receive a laptop?
You will receive a computer that will support your educational needs. We cannot guarantee you will receive a laptop.
What computer skills are required?
Use of the computer is an important part of the program. The learning coach (responsible adult in the home) needs to have some basic knowledge of computer skills. Students are most successful if they have basic computer skills. Our program is user-friendly and the teachers and staff at BOSS will guide students in the procedures used in their coursework.
What are the curriculum choices?
In the fall, we will be offering both virtual and non-virtual courses. Also in the fall, the state of Ohio will be requiring that all of our curriculum choices be aligned to the Common Core Standards; therefore, we will be reviewing our curriculum this summer and if need be revisions will be made. Non-virtual courses will require online sessions.
Will my child have the same graduation opportunities as students in traditional public school?
Yes. As a public school, our students earn a high school diploma that is identical to any other diploma awarded by public schools in the state of Ohio. Buckeye Online School for Success is an accredited public school and graduates have the same rights and privileges extended to them as any other Ohio graduates when applying for opportunities at our state and nation's colleges and universities. BOSS does host a traditional cap and gown ceremony.
How much time do students spend on school work/computer?
The typical school day is 5 hours of instruction.
Can my child work at his or her own pace?
Virtual classes meet daily at regularly scheduled times and assignments are given due dates by the teacher. Non-virtual classes require students to work daily in order to meet scheduled due dates to complete coursework in a semester`s time.
What is the attendance policy?
The attendance policy we follow is according to the Ohio State law. Students are required to log attendance every school day on their computer.
Are your students required to do state testing?
All students are required to participate in state testing, and are subject to dismissal if they do not participate.
Do you provide Special Education services at BOSS?
We have a K-12 Special Education program with Highly Qualified Teachers.

How do students interact socially?
Virtual classes allow for social interaction. We also have several field trips throughout the school year.
Can a student keep the computer after graduating or leaving the school?
No, BOSS is able to provide a student the use of a computer with necessary components only while the student is enrolled in BOSS. Once the student is no longer enrolled, BOSS will collect the computer, all equipment and books.
As a parent, what is my role in this type of environment?
Learning online is a student-parent-teacher partnership. Parent involvement increases student success. Students learn more and perform better when parents stay involved with schedules, course material, assignments and grades. Communication is very important.
