BOSS Space Balloon PDF Print E-mail

Imagine being able to reach a near outer space environment! You can sign up today to do just that. The Buckeye Online School for Success will plan our first school science project at the end of the 12-13 school year. The project is geared toward juniors and seniors in high school; however, all high school students can sign up.  The project will consist of launching a weather balloon to a near space environment, over 20 miles above the earth's surface. Students will meet online every Tuesday at 4:00PM to plan the launch, build a craft, and physically meet on the launch day to set the balloon off.

All high school students can join the team; students with an interest in math, science, and meteorology are especially encouraged to sign up!  This project will look great on college applications and will pose real life challenges to students and staff alike.

EDIT 1-14-2013 - We currently have a small group of students who meet up every Tuesday at 4:00PM.  We have gone through basic research in the past few months and are now onto development.  The project is now open to all high school students and we hope to get a few more before our expected launch in May.  All students will be able to send a small object to the upper atmosphere and keep the item when the balloon lands.

If you are interested in taking part in the project, call Frank Leppar at 866-642-9237 x1254. Leave a message with your student name, student username, grade level, and phone number.
